Privacy policy

iom-rentals.im is run by CGI Web Services and is part of the Ready2Rent family. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect and why. It applies wherever you're browsing from, and we handle personal data in line with the Isle of Man Data Protection Act 2018.

Browsing the site

You don't need to give us anything to search or view listings. Our web server keeps standard technical logs (page requested, time, your IP address, browser type) purely to keep the site running and secure. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't run any third-party tracking scripts.

Listing a property

If you list a property, we ask for your name, email address and (optionally) phone number, plus the property's address, area, rent, bedrooms, type, pets policy, description and any photos you upload. The property details and photos are shown publicly on the site — that's the whole point of a listing — but your email address and phone number are never published.

Your listing isn't live straight away: we email you a confirmation link first. Once you click it, the listing goes live and we send you a second email confirming that. You can edit or delete your listing at any time using the private link in those emails — there are no accounts or passwords.

Free Ready2Rent verification credits

When you confirm a listing, we pass your name and email address to Ready2Rent (also run by CGI Web Services) so it can set up a free account for you and load it with complimentary tenant-verification credits, as advertised. That's the only third party your details are shared with, and it's only ever this specific handoff — never a general marketing list or a sale of your data. Once your account exists, Ready2Rent's own privacy policy covers how it handles your data from that point on.

Enquiries from prospective tenants

If someone enquires about your property, we ask for their name, email, an optional phone number and a message. We store that enquiry and email it straight to you as the listing landlord, with the tenant's address set as reply-to so you can respond directly. We don't publish enquiry details anywhere, and we don't pass them to anyone else.

Anti-spam checks

Listing and enquiry forms are protected by a self-hosted challenge (ALTCHA) that runs entirely on our own server — it doesn't call out to any third party or track you. We also apply a short-lived per-IP submission limit to stop abuse; your IP address is held only long enough to enforce that limit (up to an hour) and is never linked to your listing or enquiry data.

How long we keep things

Listings and their photos stay on the site until you delete them or ask us to. If you'd like your data removed sooner, including after a listing has been taken down, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Under Isle of Man data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Get in touch through cgiweb.im and we'll sort it out.
